Community Outreach

PTP is a youth sports charity which promotes healthy, active lifestyles through the game of tennis. By emphasizing a shared enjoyment of sports, PTP provides support and assistance to help engage all citizens of the community in this active lifestyle.

Please call 609-520-0015 if you wish to discuss providing tennis programs at your school, organization, community, or fundraising event.

Tennis for 10-20yr old’s with Autism

The Princeton Tennis Program offers a free year-round program. The class meets on Saturdays from 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm.

Wheelchair Tennis

The Princeton Tennis Program is proud to offer wheelchair tennis classes to the Princeton area, as we are currently the only program to do so. We are always looking for new players, old and young, to join this fast-paced, challenging tennis class specifically designed for wheelchair users.

Senior Programming

The Princeton Tennis Program subsidizes lessons and programming for seniors in the Princeton area. These specialized programs are designed to promote health, fun, and wellbeing among senior adults.

Special Olympics

The Princeton Tennis Program lends a hand to support this worthwhile program by conducting an annual tennis training session for the Spring Special Olympics.

Financial Aid

The Princeton Tennis Program youth sports charity was founded in 1954 in an attempt to make tennis accessible to all, regardless of the participant’s ability to pay the standard program fee.

While the Princeton Tennis Program does not want to restrict participation because of financial hardship, it is also important to point out that the financial aid program can only exist if each family is paying its fair share of the costs. Those not able to pay the full fee may be awarded partial to full assistance based on their demonstrated need.

Financial Aid Application
Eligibility

Assistance will be granted on the basis of financial need, when funds are available. The household income guidelines used by the Princeton Tennis Program will be used as initial eligibility criteria. The Princeton Tennis Program believes a strong sense of ownership and pride is developed if the financial assistance recipient contributes to the cost of the PTP involvement; therefore, applicants may be asked to pay for a portion of the program fees or volunteer for an applicable activity.

How to Apply

Applicants to our youth sports charity must complete the PTP Scholarship Application along with their program request and required forms indicated on the application. All application records will be kept confidential.

Selection Process

A confidential review of the application and possible personal interview with the applicant will determine financial assistance eligibility. The PTP reserves the right to refuse assistance to any applicant. Once financial assistance is established, PTP reserves the right to retain any payments the applicant has made to date. Prior to each new season, PTP will review eligibility. Seasonal interviews with the student should be expected. If it is discovered that false information was presented, PTP has the right to terminate assistance immediately.

In-School & After School Programs

PTP’s certified tennis professionals teach the basics of tennis and sportsmanship. To ensure a successful program, we work closely with schools and P.E. teachers. Our free school programs include tennis play days, gym classes, after-school clubs, and specialized programs upon request. We provide the nets, rackets, and balls necessary for these activities.

Partnerships
  • Community Park Elementary School – The Princeton Tennis Program brings free tennis to the children of Community Park Elementary School. Each year, we introduce over 70 children to the game of tennis.
  • Tennis & Tutoring – PTP has partnered with Community House at Princeton University to create a weekly after-school program for children from John Witherspoon School who would not otherwise have the opportunity to learn the game of tennis and its inherent values. Program time is split between tennis and academic lessons.
  • Every Child Valued – PTP has partnered with Every Child Valued, to create a weekly after school program for children. They provide educational enrichment programs in cooperation with Lawrence Township Public Schools and other organizations in order to establish high expectations and achieve excellent academic performance by participating students.
  • Princeton Child Development Institute (PCDI) – During the spring, summer and fall PTP works with PCDI in their outdoor programs. These programs teach young children to talk, play with siblings and friends, and read and write. PCDI provides effective, science-based intervention for children and adults with autism and, through research and dissemination, to extend treatment resources to people with autism both nationally and internationally.
  • The Lewis School of Princeton – PTP works with the school during the spring, summer and fall with their outdoor after school programs. The Lewis School educates and empowers bright, creative young people whose scholastic achievement and human potential are compromised by unresolved, language-based learning differences related to dyslexia, ADHD, auditory processing, and executive functioning.
  • YMCA OF Hamilton and Princeton NJ – PTP works with the local YMCA’s of the Princeton area and Hamilton YMCA. We help them with their summer camps and their after-school programs.
  • Special Olympics of NJ (Camp Shriver) – PTP works with the Special Olympics of NJ (Camp Shriver) a few weeks out of the summer every year. Camp Shriver is a fun sports camp experience for individuals with intellectual disabilities of all ages.
